University of
Pune is recognized as potential of excellence and NAAC
accredited ‘A’ grade university, Prof. Dr. Narendra Jadhav
given a vision to establish Educational technology centre for
visually challenged to impart scientific, technological and
professional education to visually challenged people in order to
provide equal opportunities in higher education And To create
awareness among the functionaries of higher education about the
specific educational needs of persons with disabilities to
participate effectively in a free society.
The centre is inaugurated on 10th February 2008 by Dr. Narendra
Jadhav, honorable vice chancellor, University of Pune. it is
situated in the auspicious campus of Pune university and
administered by department of education and extension, university of
Pune.
The purpose of the establishment of Educational technology centre
for visually challenged is to promote, protect and ensure the equal
rights of all kinds of education including commerse and management,
science, technology, medicine etc by making available infra
structure and assistive technology necessary for the persons having
learning disability, In order to develop their personality, talents
and creativity, as well as their mental and physical abilities to
their fullest potential to bring them in the normal stream and make
them productive citizen of the country.
Need is realised to start research to improve educational status of
visually challenged people finally to make them financially
independent and socially respectable.
University of Pune is one of the first institutions in India taking
this responsibility to contribute for sustainable development of
disabled community of the nation.
